Complete nutrition isn’t just a good idea, it’s essential for your overall wellbeing. VITUS offers a range of wholefood sourced supplements to help you reach your recommended dietary needs, all whilst being plant-based, cruelty-free and sustainable.
Life-Giving Nutrition
VITUS Wholefoods are an Australian maker of premium, vegan-certified supplements that are sourced from wholefoods. Although offering products that aim to help make your diet more nutritionally complete, it’s what’s missing that is the difference maker. It’s these two pillars, being cruelty-free and also free from anything artificial, that set the company apart in a sea of supplement providers. To that end, VITUS prides itself on delivering high-quality nutrition that doesn’t come at the expense of animals or the planet, instead relying on plant-based ingredients and a focus on using sustainable materials in everything they do.
So, when we came across this unicorn, a wholefood nutrition brand that cares about animals and the environment, we just had to get our hands on some of their products. Fortunately, Sassy Organics came to the rescue and was able to kindly supply a VITUS Starter Kit.
Our box of goodies contained:
- VITUS Vegan Omega (180g)
- VITUS Vegan Multi (300g)
- VITUS Vegan Protein (500g)
- A reusable facemask
- 3-in-1 Scoop
Everything came neatly packaged in a premium, sustainable carton.
Good For You And The Environment
There is nothing artificial here, no weird numbers or bizarre chemical names to research, just real extracts and real compounds from real food.
When it comes to nutrition, the company is all about removing nasties from the equation, and this goes as much for what’s on the inside of each product, as it does for the outside too. For starters, our Vegan Multi and Omega powders came in glass containers, whilst our Protein was housed in a 100% compostable pouch along with a metal mixing scoop. There is virtually no plastic to be found here. Even the wrapping on the included facemask was made with plant-based materials. All of the items included in the kit were shipped in a recyclable cardboard box, whilst recyclable shredded paper protected the contents inside.
Unlike other supplements, VITUS products are made from real wholefoods. There is nothing artificial here, no weird numbers or bizarre chemical names to research, just real extracts and real compounds from real food. Take the Omega powder for example. It contains chia seed meal, organic flaxseed powder, hemp protein powder and organic Sacha Inchi protein powder. Four ingredients, that’s it. And yet, one heaped teaspoon (6 grams) provides 1000mg of combined Omega-3 and Omega-6 nutrients! Oh, and it’s also free from synthetic additives, gluten, artificial flavours, colours or sweeteners. Vegans and those on fish-free diets can rejoice too, as this supplement is 100% free of any fishy friends.
This protein is smooth, silent and soft on your tummy, meaning you can add it to your favourite smoothie without it overpowering your tastebuds.
Convenient Nutrition
Most multi-vitamins and omega supplements come in the form of a capsule or tablet, to be taken once a day and chased down with fluids. The first thing that was noticeable when switching to VITUS was just how flexible you could be each morning when following your daily routine. Instead of popping a pill or two, simply adding a scoop to juice, water or blending with a smoothie became a fun way to make sure key nutrients were being met each day. This makes VITUS a great alternative for those looking to stay on top of their health and wellbeing through complete nutrition. Importantly, the need for supplementation isn’t just reserved for those following a plant-based diet, as most people tend require some form of assistance to help meet their recommended intake of key vitamins and minerals, such as iron or B-12, which can often be lacking in an average diet.
The Vegan Omega powder mixed in well with both water and juice, and had almost no taste. This was very refreshing, as most Omega supplements are either in the form of a rubbery capsule (which can stick in the throat) or a bitter, chalky pill. Next up was the Vegan Multi. Though the bottle did say to use a blender or shaker, we did give it a go mixing into water and juice. Unfortunately, this did result in a somewhat clumpy affair, despite our most vigorous efforts. When we did as the label suggested by adding it to a blended oat smoothie, it went down a treat. Like the Omega powder, it also had almost no noticeable taste, though it did turn the smoothie green, just like it did with our water and juice experiments. We also love that it is a complete source of multivitamins, offering 100% RDI of key nutrients including A, B-12, C, D, Folic Acid, Calcium and Iron, sourced from 64% organic, wholefood ingredients.
Surprisingly, the Vegan Protein was the favourite of the bunch. There were low expectations for an unflavoured, unsweetened protein powder, yet it was exactly what it said on the tin. This meant no chalky, or cardboard-like aftertaste or heartburn. This protein is smooth, silent and soft on your tummy, meaning you can add it to your favourite smoothie without it overpowering your tastebuds. The same may also be true for cooking, such as adding the powder to pancake mixes for a little extra protein during your treat meals. The only drawback is the pouch the powder comes in. Although being made of compostable materials is a nice touch, there is no way to seal the top effectively, with the included scoop meant to double as a clip (the handle hinges open and clasps tightly shut). Unfortunately, this method does allow for air (and powder) to escape, as evidenced by a simple squeeze test, and can image the package would become more unstable when nearly empty. We’d recommend transferring the contents to a glass container and storing in the pantry. The metal scoop however is another highlight, being that it is provided outside of the protein pouch. Yes, this seems like a simple point, but one that is highly welcomed. This way, you’ll never have to go fishing for a tiny plastic scoop in a sea of protein again!
Update 12-July: VITUS confirmed that they have recently updated their protein pouch to now include a stand-up base for extra stability, and have incorporated a zip-lock to allow the pack to be effectively resealed as part of the updated design. The pouch is still 100% home compostable.
Final Verdict
VITUS supplements are a great way to ensure you get your essential nutrients on the daily. The company is focused on delivering high-quality, wholefood-sourced formulas delivered in sustainable packaging using plant-based and recyclable materials. Whether you are a long-time vegan looking to up your nutrition game, new to the plant-based lifestyle or simply interested in supplementing your current diet with vitamins sourced from real foods, VITUS are a solid recommendation for those looking to feel their best every day. ■
